Early Learning Center Groundbreaking
June 17, 2020
After nearly 61 years in existence, the Tahoe Parents Nursery School will finally have a permanent home on the campus of Lake Tahoe Community College. LTCC is hosting a small group of physically distanced dignitaries and campus leaders to help break ground and usher in the new Early Learning Center on Wednesday, June 17 at 3pm. This event will be livestreamed at www.ltcc.edu/measuref.
The Early Learning Center will be home to TPNS, providing preschool classrooms and outdoor learning spaces for the long-time, highly popular nursery school. When TPNS is not in session, LTCC will use the facility for other childhood education programs.
The architectural firm Architectural Nexus was hired to design the approximately $4,767,000 project. Construction will be handled by Clark/Sullivan Construction, and will begin shortly after the groundbreaking with an anticipated opening of 2021. Funding for this project comes from LTCC’s Measure F general obligation bond that local taxpayers supported in 2014.
The ELC building will be located adjacent to the current standalone Child Development Center on LTCC’s campus. Much like with the recently opened Lisa Maloff University Center, the new ELC facility will also put natural stone and colors to great use, creating a modern mountain look that meshes with LTCC’s existing facilities.
To help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the community, only a small group of invited guests will attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday. Guests will be required to wear face cloths or masks and follow current CDC guidelines on physical distancing. LTCC asks that interested staff, faculty, and community members not come to campus and instead enjoy the groundbreaking ceremony via the livestream. It can be accessed via LTCC’s social media and on the Measure F webpage.
LTCC is launching a fundraising effort to include a brand-new playground on the ELC premises, which requires funding outside of Measure F. If you’d like to financially support a playground for the ELC, please contact LTCC Foundation Executive Director Nancy Harrison at (530)) 541-4660 x. 245, or email harrison@ltcc.edu.
