LTCC Art Instructor Illustrates New Book: The Marvelous Mrs. Claus

Catherine Lockner Church is a fine artist and illustrator with over 10 years of experience teaching in the art department at Lake Tahoe Community College. Her recent project, The Marvelous Mrs. Claus, showcases her beautiful full-color illustrations, a blend of watercolor and digital art. Catherine’s fine art focuses on oil and watercolor, with a special emphasis on the human form, portraiture, and capturing mood and emotion while telling a compelling story.

The inspiration for The Marvelous Mrs. Claus came through a collaboration with award-winning local author Molly McGee Kelly. Molly approached Catherine with a story about teamwork that shined a light on the often-overlooked Mrs. Claus. Much like in the story, their partnership led to something even greater than they could have imagined alone. Together, they founded Jackfish Publishing, a company dedicated to providing local authors, artists, and students with the opportunity to publish their work.

In the future, Catherine and Molly hope to offer workshops and classes at LTCC focused on the intersection of storytelling and illustration.
