Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC), a regional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education and the U.S. Department of Education. LTCC had its recent accreditation reaffirmed January 2025.

LTCC was originally granted accreditation in January 1979. Accreditation status has successfully been maintained ever since through a regular process of self-evaluation and review by the ACCJC. The University of California, the California State Universities, and other accredited colleges and universities give full credit for equivalent and transferable courses satisfactorily completed at Lake Tahoe Community College.

"This reaffirmation highlights LTCC’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement. It’s a testament to the thoughtful work of the entire LTCC team and their focus on serving students and the South Lake Tahoe community."

— Jeff DeFranco, Lake Tahoe Community College Superintendent/President

Accreditation Process

ACCJC has established a comprehensive set of standards against which colleges are periodically evaluated to ensure and monitor the quality of education provided by the institution. These standards are divided into four categories: institutional mission and effectiveness; student learning programs and services; resources (human, physical, technology, and financial); and leadership and governance.

The college regularly undergoes a comprehensive self-study to assess how well it meets accreditation standards. This process involves the entire campus, culminating in a detailed self-study report. Following the report, ACCJC sends a team of peer evaluators—educators from other colleges—to visit LTCC, validate the self-study, and assess the college’s adherence to accreditation standards. The team submits a report with their findings and a confidential recommendation to ACCJC, which determines the college's accreditation status.

In addition to this comprehensive review, the college submits midterm evaluation reports midway through the cycle and annual reports to ACCJC to ensure ongoing compliance.
