SPA 191AX - The History of Spain Through Its Architecture, presented by Dr. John Rosenberg (.25 units) (All Levels)
Architecture is more than just engineering - it reflects the priorities, politics and passions of an entire people. Buildings like the Roman amphitheater at Mérida, the Alhambra palace in Granada, the Great Mosque in Córdoba, the cathedral in Toledo, Gaudi's civic and religious works, and Franco's Valley of the Fallen all contain stories told in stone. We will trace the history of Spain and its related stories through a study of several of these emblematic buildings. Dr. Rosenberg is back by popular demand with this NEW course. He is the Dean of the College of Humanities at Brigham Young University and is also a professor of Spanish at BYU. He holds awards for his outstanding teaching at BYU and Cornell University.
